School Cricket: Peterites crush Nalanda by innings

SPC-LOGO-99.jpgSt Peter’s crushed Nalanda by an innings and three runs in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Campbell Place yesterday. St Peter’s having dominated proceedings on the opening day kept up their momentum on day two too.

The Peterites having bundled out the home team for a low score of 112 ended day one in a strong position of 177 for 2 and continuing on their overnight score on day two they went on to make a formidable score of 208 for 4 with overnight batsman Hashan Wanasekera who was unbeaten on 48 going on to make a top score of 67.

Nalanda batting the second time with a deficit of 96 runs was unable to make any headway as they fared no better than in their first innings and succumbed to a score of just 93.

Nalanda 112 (Asel Kulatunga 22, Isuru Samarasinghe 21: Ayantha de Silva 16, Malinga Amarasinghe 15: Randel Seneviratne 4 for 25, Ashanth Malka 3 for 18) and 93 (Kavindu Bandara 25: Dasun Seneviratne 15: Ashanth Malka 3 for 40, Taneesha Weerakoon 2 for 16, Chandula Jayamanne 2 for 19)

St Peter’s (177/2 overnight) 208 for 4 declared (Hashan Wanasekera 67, Dineth Thimodya 59, Didulana Medis 59)
