Dear Peterites,

As we approach the (hectic) Festive Season wish to keep you updated on the activities and news from St. Peter’s College OBU.

SPC OBU LOGOOld Peterites, batch groups and the foundations together with overseas branches have been busy with their activities half way through their term under the guidance of the OBU President Romeish De Mel and in supporting the College and the Rector Fr. Trevor Martin to achieve the best in studies and in extracurricular activities at College. There have been significant changes and development taking place at College front with Rector Fr. Trevor Martin leading from the front. Same goes with the OBU as all committees are busy trying to achieve their set goals by putting their plans in place and hosting events to gather members and raise much needed funds. During the past two to three months, we had many such events. This included the successful hosting of Golden Gleam 2014, Annual Joe-Pete Cricket 6’s, Club Nights at the Lounge, Musical Evenings with Marians, Dinner Dance in London, Rugby Carnivals in Dubai, Reunions in Australia, workshops and events for College students and felicitations for teachers etc. Do visit our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/obuofstpeterscollege and the web site www.stpetersobu.com for all the stories and pictures.

Looking ahead; St. Peter’s College Cricket Foundation will host PCL Season 04 on Sunday 16th November at College Grounds with many Peterite Cricket stars from yesteryear will team up with young Peterites and compete under 08 Franchises. The Organizer’s wishes to invite all young and old Peterites to turn up at College Grounds at Bambalapitiya and enjoy this Cricket Carnival.

The Chief Guest for this occasion would be former Sri Lanka National Cricketer, former Sri Lanka Cricket Coach and Manager an Old Peterite Roy Dias. This is one of the most looked forward to Cricket Carnivals among Peterites where many former Peterites who performed exceptionally well during the late 80’s and 90’s with some have represented various National teams are teaming up with the present generation Peterite Cricketers to battle it out on this 6 A Side Cricket League. Furthermore, each team will include couple of young Cricketers from the current 1st XI of St. Peter’s College giving them valuable exposure and experience by competing with senior and top Peterite Cricketers. You can find out the full team details on www.stpetersobu.com and on https://www.facebook.com/groups/170858316310275/.

Meanwhile St. Peter’s College 1st XI didn’t have a good start to their 2014/2015 season as some of their 3rd term matches were called off due to bad weather we experienced in Sri Lanka during the past month. This includes matches against St. Aloysius College, Galle (SPC 181 and St. Aloysius 106/6), Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa (Joseph Vaz 120/3) being called off half way and the match against Trinity College Kandy at Asgiriya being called off without a single ball being bowled. The only match rather at least an inning they managed to complete was against Isipathana College last week at Colts Grounds and Peterites lost that game on first innings. Peterites scored 216 with Shalinda Ushan scoring 60 runs in reply to Isipathana’s score of 233 and on the 2nd inning Isipathana was 77/4 at stumps.

Moving into Football, St. Peter’s College Football Foundation has been able to successfully revive the standards of the game and the passion for it among the young and old Peterites with their dedication and hardwork. This has resulted in change of fortunes too. Peterites fared extremely well during this season, across all age Groups from age Groups under 09 to Under 19 which has brought recognition and fame to College in Football. You can read full achievements on the www.stpetersobu.com and on https://www.facebook.com/SPCFF

In order to change the fortunes of Peterite Rugby, St. Peter’s College recruited Ben Macdougall a Scottish International and a Professional Rugby Coach as Director of Rugby and the Head coach of SPC ending 08 year stint of Collin Dinesh former Peterite Rugby Captain (1989) who was one time under study to Sanath Martis (2006-2011) and had mixed results during his tenure as Head Coach (2011-2014). Let us wish Ben all the best and God’s blessings as he undertakes the task of taking Peterite Rugby to achieve greater heights in coming seasons. Meanwhile St. Peter’s College Under 16 team went on an overseas tour to Singapore where the Young Peterites played really well during the weekend at Saints Tournament in Singapore. You can watch the match videos and pictures and all stories on Peterite Rugby Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/2351227303/

If you want to party like crazy Mexicans and enjoy some Mexican food and drinks then head over to Peterite Mexican Fiesta which is organized by the Old Peterites 93/94 Group and hosted at Hotel Mount Breeze, Mt. Lavinia on 22nd November from 8.00p.m onwards. All proceeds will be for the Student Scholarship Scheme.

Until I write back, after the Fiesta and some sports (rather watching some Cricket matches) and hopefully in time to say Ho Ho for Christmas, stay calm and fit and follow us on Facebook and on web.

Saludos Peterites!
