St. Peter’s College Under-16 rugby team did well to maintain their supremacy in the Western Province rugby tournament when they retained the Cup Championship of the Western Province Inter-Schools Under-16, Fifteen-a-side Invitation Tournament for the record third consecutive year and take the Asian Finance Trophy at CR&FC grounds, Colombo on Wednesday.
The promising Diyath Fernando, the skipper of Bambalapitiya team was at his best and scored a hat-trick of tries while Angelo Mendis and Stephan Sivaraj too contributed with tries to their 33-7 victory against the second-time cup runners-up Mahanama College, Colombo.
Coached by D. P. Udayasiri, St. Peter’s beat Science College in the cup final in 2011 and defeated Mahanama College after a close 3-0 battle to keep the custody of the cup in 2012.
